Research:

My research focus is on the epidemiology of H6 subtype influenza viruses in southern China. Through our systematic surveillance data in southern China, we suggested that H6N1 influenza viruses have become established and endemic in minor poultry species. Reassortment of internal genes between different subtype of viruses like H5N1, H9N2 and other avian influenza viruses, generated multiple novel H6N1 viruses circulating in poultry in southern China. These results suggested that the markets in southern China were generating the genetic diversity of influenza viruses.
